Government To Celebrate Social Protection In Achieving Uganda’s National Development Aspirations

The Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, in collaboration with the Uganda Parliamentary Forum, has organized the Social Protection National Dialogue 2024. This event aims to assess the delivery of social protection services.

The National Dialogue will bring together duty bearers and rights holders from various sectors, including Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, Civil Society Organizations, academia, development partners, and members of the public.

The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, in collaboration with the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection with support from Development Partners, has organized yet another month-long event to showcase and celebrate the success and potential of social protection in achieving Uganda’s national development aspirations.

Speaking to the press, Honourable Minister Peace Regis Mutuuzo noted that there is evidence that social protection plays a critical role in enabling sustainable development.

Minster added that Uganda continues to grapple with challenges of poverty, malnutrition, unemployment and limited social security coverage.

Deputy Programs Manager for SAGE Paul Onapa noted that the government of Uganda has designed & is implementing many social protection programmes to address various risks & vulnerabilities.

He added that the Social Protection Strategy was developed to establish social protection policies and interventions throughout the country.

Paul stated that social protection coverage in Uganda is currently very low.

Social Protection Month 2024 is the 2nd Annual advocacy engagement being commemorated under the theme "Social Protection as an Enabler for Human Capital Development across the Lifecycle”.

It seeks to highlight the potential of social protection to facilitate the achievement of Human Capital Development targets across the lifecycle.
