Government To Set Up Demonstration Farms In Kasese
The government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries has announced its plans to put demonstration farms at Mubuku Irrigation Settlement Scheme to improve Agro Tourism and Commercial farming
This was revealed in a meeting of farmers with ministry officials at Mubuku Irrigation Settlement Scheme offices in Scheme, Nyamwamba division Kasese Municipality.
The Ministry of agriculture is preparing to set up demonstration farms at the Mubuku irrigation settlement scheme to act as samples to farmers and students on how they are supposed to carry out their activities.
John Barinde, a farmer told officials from the Ministry of Agriculture that the scheme has no demonstration farms where students who come for Agro tourism can learn from Individual gardens.
As one way of improving Agro Tourism, Eng. Titus Nuwamanya Principal Engineer in charge of Irrigation and Drainage from the Ministry of Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries who represented the Permanent Secretary says the ministry will set up these demonstration farms
Lt. Maate Magwara the Deputy Resident Commissioner for Kasese told our reporter that the process of setting up these demonstration farms is going to start immediately.
Yasin Tumwine the Director of the National Youth Organization for Development (NAYODE) an NGO that is responsible for touring students with the scheme requests the government to give them fifteen acres of land that will help them to start up demonstration farms.
Julius Baluku the Production Officer for Kasese district encouraged farms to organize their farming skills and production which will attract tourists for Agro tourism.
it is noted that the ministry will allocate the land to farmers in Mubuku Irrigation Scheme phase 2 to allow the practice of commercial farming.
