Government Undertaking Multibillion Piped Water Projects In Kikuube

The government through the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Program (UgIFT) is undertaking piped water projects in the Kikuube district.

In this government seeks to ease access to water to the locals of Kikuube. One of the projects being undertaken by the government through Uganda's intergovernmental fiscal transfer program (UgIFT) is the Nyamurima water project in the Bugambe sub-county, Kikuube.

Hillary Agondeze, the Kikuube district water officer says that in the last financial year 2022/23, they constructed a production well of 18,000 litres per hour, a pump house and other infrastructures.

He adds that they have so far used 200 million shillings out of 1.5 billion shillings meant for the Nyamurima water project and it is expected to be complete in July 2025.

Agondeze further noted that they are going to have more similar piped water projects in Hohwa in the Kabwoya sub-county at a cost of 700 million shillings, Rwemparaki in the Buhimba sub-county at a cost of 500 million shillings.

During the supervision and commissioning of functional water projects in Bugambe sub-county, Peter Banura, the Kikuube district LC5 Chairperson noted that once the Nyamurima water project is complete, able residents will receive piped water in their homes at a cheap cost.

Banura explains that although the government is going to supply water to all households, users will foot some bills for maintenance.

Meanwhile, the Kikuube district resident commissioner Amlan Tumusiime has commissioned and handed over a borehole at Kahojo in Kyarubanga, Bugambe sub-county, at Nyairongo seed school in Kabwoya Sub County.

residents that received a borehole in Kyarubanga village thanked the government saying that they have been fetching contaminated water from the nearby swamp.

Accordingly, the aim of these water projects is to see everyone get water from short distances.
