Government Wants Unscrupulous Hijjah Organizers Investigated
The Kampala minister Minsa Kabanda has revealed that the government has moved to investigate agencies fond of extorting money from Muslims in the name of taking them to Mecca for hijjah.
There are reports of Ugandans who were left stranded at the airport much as they had paid money to be taken to Saudi Arabia to perform a Muslim ritual, hajj.
This group of people is said to include even members of parliament.
Thousands and thousands of Muslims have today moved uphill old Kampala mosque to mark Eid al Adha. Many of these were already at the mosque as early as 8 am, men, women and children.
The prayers were graced by the minister for Kampala Minsa Kabanda who represented Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
In her message, the minister for Kampala condemned a section of travel agencies which have failed to take people to perform Hijja even after they had paid.
The minister says some were forced to pay an extra 600 dollars to be able to board the plane, Others are said to be hospitalized after missing the pilgrimage.
The minister now wants Uganda's Muslim supreme council to investigate these cases to see that they are brought to an end. The same incident is said to have happened last year.
Muslim leader and supreme Mufti of Uganda Shaban Mubajje told the minister that the Muslim community has been excluded from government programs like the parish development model (PDM) because of the nature of the program. The program calls for profits which are central to Islamic belief.
The minister who has been affected by the same terms promised to look into the matter.
Mubaje also condemned the recent attacks at Mpondwe Lhubirira secondary school attacks by the ADF that saw the death of 37 students.
The Supreme Mufti challenged the rebels to face off with the national forces rather than take innocent lives.
Known as the “Feast of Sacrifice”, Eid al-Adha commemorates the Quranic tale of Prophet Abrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God.
