Hoima RDC Orders Ban on Nighttime Entertainment to Ensure Peace During 2026 Election Campaigns
As Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, authorities in Hoima District have enforced a ban on all nighttime entertainment events, including dance and music shows. The move aims to bolster security and promote peace amid rising reports of violence, insecurity, and night-related incidents linked to electoral activities.
During a security briefing with parliamentary candidates at the Hoima District headquarters, Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Michael Kyakashari emphasized the importance of maintaining peace throughout the campaign period. “Our primary concern is the safety of our citizens,” Kyakashari stated. “We have received reports of fatalities in nightclubs, which is unacceptable, and that’s why we are taking this firm stance.”
Several candidates voiced their worries about the rising insecurity and disturbing incidents such as abductions and violence. Susan Asimwe and Gerald Kasigwa, both candidates, highlighted the need for heightened security measures and cautioned voters to remain vigilant.
Candidates and leaders were also warned against engagement with misleading electoral officials. Joseph Birabwa, the District Police Commander (DPC), urged candidates to remain patient and not to view the electoral process as a “do or die” situation, emphasizing that peace and order should be prioritized over conflict.
Deputy RDC Kyakashari urged elected leaders and aspiring candidates to guide their supporters towards peaceful and respectful campaigning. “Speak to your voters, tell them the importance of peace, and help us maintain calm during these critical times,” he advised.
Authorities in Hoima remain committed to ensuring that the 2026 campaigns proceed without violence, emphasizing that collective effort and strong security measures are key to hosting a peaceful election season.
