IGG Arrests Ntungamo District Engineers Over Government Funds Misappropriation

The deputy inspector General of Government Annie Muheirwe has arrested Ntungamo district Engineers on allegations of misappropriation of government funds

Those arrested included Charles Kushemererwa and his deputy Moses Twiine

The arrest of Engineer Muheirwe and his deputy Twiine came after the two engineers failed to explain shoddy works on two key roads in the district.

The arrest followed the inspection of roads by the deputy inspector general of police Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe who on her inspection was accompanied by district leadership

The two road works that caused the arrest are in the 2021/2022 financial year which include Omungyenyi- Kagugu road in Rushenyi County and Kagarama- Rwamabondo road in Kajara County.

The two roads were worked on using funds from the Ministry of Works, however, generating debate over the amount of money allocated against the work done on the roads.

Muheirwe said the IG’s observation was that the money used to construct the two roads was misappropriated and the road was not properly done.

The two roads with a total of 32.7 Km were worked on for a tune of over Ushs 600M however residents and leaders claim the bills of quantities were never followed.

On inspection the IGG found that the width of the road had been narrowed, culvert bridges poorly

IGG’s action excited locals and area leaders who said they had portioned different offices over the misappropriation of government funds but no action was taken
