
IGG Kamya Speaks Out On Wealth Declaration
The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Kamya has launched the declaration of wealth by public officials for 2023.
Kamya told the media that the declaration of assets, liabilities and income will be done in the month of March and it will have to be done by all public officials, including the President.
The declaration which will be done online is provided under the Leadership Code Act which is implemented by the Inspectorate of Government (IG).
The Leadership Code Act provides that every two years, all public leaders at the national level and in the districts are required to submit to the Inspectorate of Government a written declaration of their income, assets and liabilities. The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Kamya has reminded the officials to comply with the law.
Kamya added that the wealth declaration period will not be extended under any circumstances since it is a planned activity, and all the concerned officials are called upon to adhere to the time allocated.
The law also provides for verification of what the officials have declared and under declaration of wealth is punishable. The IGG added that even false declaration is unlawful.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa will officially launch the activity on Wednesday 1st March 2023 in Lira City. The process will for only 30 days, which is one month.
