Isingiro Stakeholders Call For Support Of Schools In Sorry State
Stakeholders in the Isingiro district have called on the government to come to the aid of schools that are in a poor state.
The stakeholders who included parents, school heads, and old students of these schools raise concerns that pupils are studying in dilapidated classrooms and have no staff quarters.
These made the comments yesterday at a fundraising drive to raise funds for rehabilitating Kyabahesi Primary School in the Bukanga-Isingiro district. Moses Ahimbisiibwe chairman management committee of Kyabahesi Primary School reported that the school has seven classrooms that are all crumbling and they need a total of shs98 million is needed to facelift them.
Kyabahesi Primary School is one of the oldest schools in the Isingiro district, records show it started way back in 1968, as a government-aided school under the foundation of the church of Uganda.
The school which has produced a number of senior citizens is in an embarrassing state.
A total of shs 20 million in cash and pledges was raised during the fundraising.
According to Ahimbisibwe, because of the school’s sorry state, the standard has deteriorated and affected enrolment. The school in past years used to be a grade one school.
The schools also lack staff accommodation, teachers walk long distances which affects service delivery.
Julius Begumya- the chairperson education committee of Kyabahesi COU parish and Kigaragara archdeaconry, decried the schools worrying state and called on all well-wishers including leaders to come to the rescue of the 55 years old school.
Speaking at the event, Rev.Canon Agasha Muhwezi- the Ankole diocese Education Secretary challenged parents in the district to invest much of their resources in educating their children.
Muhwezi who was the chief guest at the fundraising, noted that many people who missed to get education have faced a lot of challenges in their old age.
Meanwhile, Sheema District woman MP, Rosemary Nyakikongoro, has called on well-wishers of Nganwa High School to mobilize funds needed to rehabilitate the school. Nyakikongoro made the comments during a fundraising drive to raise funds needed to construct an administration block and science laboratory at Nganwa High School.
Nganwa High School is one of the schools that started a long time ago but has dilapidated buildings.
