Journalists Urged To Be Gender Sensitive While Covering Stories

Uganda media women associate in Uganda carried out a two days training aimed at sensitizing the media on the gender sensitivity most especially on women in the whole country.

This deals with networking and advocacy in order to enhance visibility and status of women and other margined group, this training ended today in kisasi Kampala.

Over 20 percent of the Ugandan women are not recognized in the public and also in the media due to the cultural mindset that has limited most of the women to become successful and heroes as men in the society. Uganda media women associate came up with the train to bring a mindset change in order to raise the voices of every woman through media.

In addition these women have worked together with the media and these have shared various challenges they face as women in the community and also why the media has failed to bring out gender balance among men and women in the media fraternity.

Speaking for the media side, these expressed their challenges which are yet to be addressed since the governments have no policies that implement more on the payments which issue has made journalists forsake work ethics and instead set their mind on doing business instead of being professional.  The executive director of Uganda media women associate highlighted on this issue.

We interacted with some of the councilors who gave in their views about the trainings, however as women leaders in Uganda theY  have asked the government to look more in the issue of gender sensitivity these have called upon all journalists to do more of the community stories with gender balance.
