Excitement and celebration continue to spread across the country as Members of Parliament officially assume office in Uganda’s 12th Parliament. More than 300 legislators have already taken oath since the exercise began, with supporters and leaders holding celebrations to mark the beginning of a new parliamentary term.

Joy and celebration filled Kitende in Wakiso District as Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Honourable Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, hosted colourful celebrations with her supporters and campaign teams following her successful election to the 12th Parliament.

Supporters dressed in party colours danced to traditional music, waved banners, and celebrated what they described as a hard-earned victory.

Campaign agents and coordinators thanked voters for standing with the candidate throughout the intense campaign period, saying the victory reflected the trust people have in her leadership.

During the celebrations, supporters also paid tribute to the late Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, the former State Minister for Defence, recognizing her contribution to leadership and development in Kisoro District.

Local leaders and mobilizers used the occasion to remind the newly elected legislator about key challenges affecting Kisoro District, particularly poor tourism roads and inadequate health services.

They appealed to the government to prioritize the tarmacking of tourism roads connecting major sites in Kisoro, saying improved infrastructure would boost tourism and household incomes in the area.

Leaders also called for improved health facilities and medical supplies to address persistent challenges faced by communities in the district.

Speaking during the celebrations, Honourable Grace Akifeza Ngabirano thanked supporters for entrusting her with leadership and pledged to continue advocating for improved service delivery and development in Kisoro District.

The parliamentary oath-taking exercise continues tomorrow as more legislators officially begin their new term in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
