Justice Baguma Refuses To Step Aside In Besigye Treason Trial
Justice Emmanuel Baguma has rejected a request to recuse himself from the treason trial involving opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, Obeid Lutale, and Capt. Denis Oola.
He ruled that the High Court's Criminal Division is the rightful forum to handle the case, emphasizing that the accused had already acknowledged its competence through earlier bail applications.
The judge also addressed arguments that the case had been wrongly assigned to the Criminal Division instead of the International Crimes Division.
He clarified that the lower court referred the matter to the High Court and that the Criminal Division has consistently handled cases of a similar nature.
