Kabale District To Acquire Physical Development Plan

Kabale District To Acquire Physical Development Plan

The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development has embarked on a process that will see Kabale District have a well-designed physical development plan.

The plan will highlight long-term development priorities for the district and the Ministry officials will assess to see what it takes to have them executed.

Officials from the Lands Ministry met Kabale district leaders for consultations on their development interests before proceeding with the assessment exercise.

Officials from the Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development held a planning meeting with Kabale district leaders at the district council hall at Makanga Hill in Kabale Municipality.

Ronald Murungi, a physical planner from the Lands Ministry, said that this meeting followed a prior approval by the Kabale District Council to have the ministry provide expertise to help process a physical development plan for the district.

Murungi says that the exercise will move at a steady pace but they expect that by the end of the 2023/24 financial year, visible progress will have been made.

Miria Tugume, the Kabale district Vice-chairperson noted that once the physical development plan is ready, they will see noticeable progress in implementing infrastructural projects.

Other stakeholders suggested several development projects that the government should consider for the Kabale district, including an airfield, improving road infrastructure, and healthcare systems, among others.

Kabale district has several of Uganda’s top tourist attractions including Lake Bunyonyi, Africa's second deepest Lake and it is also a stopover center for tourists intending to visit the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a popular spot for Mountain Gorilla tracking in the region. Bwindi is in the neighboring Kisoro District.
