Kasese Court Sentences Fish Dealers To 100 Days for Illegal Fish Trade:800 Kilograms of Immature Fish Destroyed in Kasese Operation. Fisheries Officials Warn Against Sale of Immature Fish.

Three fish dealers have been sentenced to 100 days in prison after they were found transporting immature fish in violation of fisheries regulations. The suspects were convicted by court and sent to Katwe Prison as authorities intensified operations against illegal fishing practices in the region.

Three fish dealers are serving a 100-day jail sentence at Katwe Prison after they were arrested for dealing in immature fish.

According to Lieutenant Moses Atuyambe, the Sector Commander of Kasese under the 115 Battalion, the suspects were arrested on June 8th, 2026, while transporting immature fish in motor vehicle registration number UAX 419L, a Spacio vehicle.

He says the suspects were handed over to police for investigations before appearing in court, where they pleaded guilty to the charges. The court later sentenced them to 100 days in prison and ordered that the fish be destroyed by burning.

Lake Katwe Fisheries Officer Muhindo Paddy says he participated in the inspection and established that the fish measured only four inches in length, which is below the legally accepted size for sale and consumption.

Muhindo Paddy, the Lake Katwe Fisheries Officer, noted that such immature fish should not be found on the market, as they threaten the sustainability of fish stocks.

Lieutenant Atuyambe says security agencies have resumed operations targeting illegal fishing and fish trade activities in the area and urged fish dealers to cooperate with authorities and comply with fisheries regulations to avoid losses and legal consequences.

The impounded fish weighed approximately 800 kilograms and had been packed in sacks for transportation.
