Katikkiro On Guiding Children For Education
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged parents to give children guidance which will enable them not to fall for wrong advice from some people who don't see value in education.
Owekitiibwa Mayiga made the appeal while launching the Buganda Kingdom’s "luwalo" programme, a fundraising initiative to support socio-economic development projects in the kingdom.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga has launched the “luwalo” program, an initiative by the Buganda kingdom where parishes or miluka buy certificates and the proceeds are then re-invested in the other kingdom development programmes, including education, health, infrastructure, among others.
During the launch, Katikkiro Mayiga urged school-going children not to pay attention to anyone seeking to misguide them by claiming that education has no value since even uneducated people have made money in business.
He urged parents and children to embrace education because it is not only an equalizer in life but also a powerful tool for socio-economic transformation.
On the ‘luwalo initiative, the katikkiro said that the programme is aimed at changing the mindsets of the people of Buganda to help them prosper and raise household incomes.
During the launch of the luwalo programme, more than 34 million shillings were collected from various parishes and there was concern that in 2022, the kingdom collected over 1 billion shillings.
The launch was graced by several dignitaries, among them Members of Parliament, local leaders, and ministers from the Buganda Kingdom, among others
