KCCA, the body responsible for keeping the city at standard, clean and looking good, today gave a three-day ultimatum to residents of Kasanvu Zone, Namuwongo, who encroach on the National Water channel to remove their belongings so that the National Water channel can be rehabilitated and also improve on the flow of water in the channel.

KCCA carried out clean-up operations where it cleared drainage channels as well as demolished pit latrines and also promised to build community toilets in order to solve the issue

Dr. Sara Zalwango, the director of public health and environment KCCA, speaking on the issue of garbage not piling up in this area, says it is caused by pure negligence of the people, as she wondered why littering garbage and dumping it in drainage channels seems like common practice.

Dr. Sara  said that among the things they still have to do is to carry out the work of going forward and sensitizing people to understand the benefit of good sanitation and healthy living.

The chairman Kasanvu zone thanked KCCA for the work done in the zone to clean the city and also promised that a public toilet will be constructed.

The councillor of this area Kyomugisha Maureen, also praised this initiative but asked that they extend the deadline because the time they were given is very limited.

The Executive Director, in her remarks, assured the people of this area that the days given to them to vacate the area are for the good of the community.
