The Kampala Capital City Authority has taken its Weyonje clean-up campaign to Kiwatule Central Zone in Nakawa Division, where residents were encouraged to maintain a clean environment, properly separate waste, and seek timely medical care whenever they fall ill.
The Kampala Capital City Authority, through its Weyonje clean-up campaign, today carried out a community cleaning exercise in Kiwatule Central Zone, Nakawa Division.
The exercise involved sweeping roads, collecting garbage, and removing plastic waste, while residents were sensitized on the importance of proper waste management and environmental cleanliness.
The Executive Director of KCCA, Sharifa Buzeki, said the Weyonje campaign is aimed at taking sanitation services closer to communities while encouraging residents to actively participate in keeping Kampala clean.
Buzeki urged residents to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, noting that proper waste management not only protects the environment but can also create economic opportunities.
She also encouraged members of the public to seek treatment promptly at government health facilities whenever they fall sick, adding that residents who experience challenges in accessing services should use the available toll-free lines to report their concerns.
The Lord Mayor of Kampala, Eng. Balimwezo Nsubuga, who joined the clean-up exercise, called upon residents to embrace cleanliness and work together to eliminate poor sanitation in their communities.
Officials from the Ministry of Health also urged residents to properly dispose of waste by using designated garbage containers as part of efforts to prevent disease outbreaks and promote public health.
The Weyonje campaign continues to encourage residents to take collective responsibility for keeping Kampala clean through proper waste disposal, environmental conservation, and improved public health practices.
