Kikomeko Abubaka Yassin Wins Bakuli Market LC1 Election:Bakuli Market Elects New LC1 Leadership.Vote Counting Dispute Follows Delayed Polling Process.
Ugandans today, 28th July 2026, voted to elect local council one chairpersons across the country. At Bakuli Market, three candidates contested for the LC1 chairperson seat, with Kikomeko Abubaka Yassin emerging victorious. The election was, however, marked by a delayed start and brief disagreements over the voter register and vote counting.
At Bakuli Market, three candidates contested for the Local Council One chairperson position: Mayanja Brian, Kikomeko Abubaka Yassin, and Mabike Taibu.
Candidates and their supporters gathered at the polling station, each expressing confidence ahead of the vote.
Voting, which had been scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., started an hour later after Electoral Commission officials completed the verification of voters using the village register.
With all candidates present, supporters lined up behind their preferred candidates as voting got underway.
The counting process began with votes cast for Kikomeko Abubaka Yassin. Tension briefly arose when an agent representing Mabike Taibu questioned the vote count. Electoral Commission officials recounted the disputed votes before continuing with the tally.
At the end of the exercise, Kikomeko Abubaka Yassin was declared the winner.
Mabike Taibu finished second, while Mayanja Brian came third.
Yassin attributed his victory to the confidence residents had in his previous leadership, saying his efforts to mobilize the community to benefit from government programs, including the Parish Development Model, earned him another term in office.
Meanwhile, Mabike Taibu expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, alleging that one of the candidates was not a resident of the area and claiming that some of his supporters were missing from the Electoral Commission register.
Residents and supporters also shared their views on both the voting process and the outcome of the election.
The election concluded with Kikomeko Abubaka Yassin retaining the Bukuli Market LC1 chairperson seat as newly elected local council leaders begin their new term of office.
