Kizza Besigye Denied Court Appearance as Lawyers Ejected by Justice Baguma — Opposition Calls It Judicial Harassment
Tensions escalated in the judiciary today as opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye was denied the right to appear in court, a move strongly condemned by his legal team as a breach of constitutional rights and due process.
The courtroom, presided over by Justice Baguma, took an unexpected and controversial turn when Besigye’s lawyers requested his physical presence. Instead of being allowed to speak, the defense team was suddenly ejected from the court, silencing their submissions and raising questions about the fairness of the proceedings.
This incident has further fueled concerns among civil society groups and opposition supporters, who are calling for greater transparency and warning of possible judicial harassment. Besigye’s lawyers argue that the charges against him are politically motivated, and today's events reinforce their allegations.
As the legal battle continues to unfold, all eyes are on the judiciary, with many questioning its impartiality amidst an increasingly tense political climate. The case remains a focal point of national debate about justice and political freedom.
