Kyagulanyi’s Chief Bodyguard Damped At Masaka High Court
The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi’s chief bodyguard, Edward Ssebuwufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, has today been dropped off by security operatives at Masaka High Court, where he was charged with terrorism and aggravated robbery.
Eddie Mutwe was abducted on April 27th from Mukono district, and for a while no one knew his whereabouts until last week when the President’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), revealed how he was holding him before being produced to the courts.
A visibly limping Eddie Mutwe was taken from a salon car and assisted by plain-clothed security operatives to enter the courthouse, where journalists and family members were barred from attending court proceedings.
His lawyer, Magellan Kazibwe, said Eddie Mutwe was charged with aggravated robbery of a mobile phone and sweater from journalists, and his name was added to the file of three other NUP activists. Magellan Kazibwe explains the charges.
Kazibwe lamented the sorry state of Eddie Mutwe’s health, who he says needs special attention from a bigger hospital.
Before the court proceedings, the Buganda Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, had asked Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to hand over Eddie Mutwe to the police so as to conduct their own investigations and charge him if he is guilty of anything.
After the court session, Eddie Mutwe’s relatives lamented how security operatives barred them from accessing their loved one.
In a related development, journalists in Greater Masaka have accused some of their members of being behind the smear campaign involving the arrest and charging of Eddie Mutwe.
