
Local Government Leaders Advocate For Increased Staffing To Enhance Service Delivery

At the commencement of the 2023/2024 financial year, the Ministry of Finance issued a circular stating that there would be no staff recruitment during this fiscal year. This decision was made to provide the government with the necessary time to complete a comprehensive audit of the public sector payroll, which aims to determine the actual number of civil servants.
The Ministry of Local Government came out and urged the government to lift the staff recruitment ban.
Today COU Family TV engaged the general secretary for Uganda's local government association, Okuku Richard who emphasized the need for financing the staff recruitment process for proper monitoring and overseeing the success of government programs on a local government level.

Recently in the IGG’s report, local government was among the most corrupt entities and recently some of the three local leaders were arrested for embezzling funds meant to help Ugandans join the money economy.
