Luwero Diocese Officially Receives A Caretaker

Today, Luwero Diocese has officially welcomed their Caretaker Rt. Rev. James Williams Ssebagala the retired Bishop of Mukono was accompanied by his wife and daughter Tezira Ssebagala and Irene Nanteza respectively. His official reporting follows his appointment by the archbishop of the church of Uganda the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba-Mugalu which was confirmed in a letter dated July 14, 2023.

Rt. Rev. Ssebaggala’s appointment comes after the outgoing Bishop, Rt. Rev Eridard Nsubuga Kironde's abdication and handing over of Ecclesiastical authority to the Archbishop upon retirement, per the Constitution and Canons of the Church of Uganda on the 9th of this month. 

The official Caretaker Rt. Rev. James Williams Ssebagala has been warmly received by several clerical members including the outgoing Rev. Eridard Nsubuga Kironde. 

Rt. Rev. appreciated the excitement and the warm welcome exhibited to him by Luwero Diocesan Leaders, and he vehemently promised to work with the prevailing staff. 

Bishop Ssebagala refuted disunity among Christians in the Diocese saying reconciliation will come next after being received however, promised to work hand in with Christians towards having peace and restoring unity for the progress of the Diocese. 

Rev. Canon Shemu Jukira Lutalo has appreciated the move made by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda the Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Kazimba Mugalu and promised to work hand in hand with him for the betterment of the Luwero Diocese.

While speaking to COU Family tv, Luwero Christians have disclosed that they have new hopes in the caretaker as they look forward to restoring unity amongst believers from every corner of the Diocese.

Bishop Ssebaggala’s tenure is ending on March 18, 2024, however, the rest of the work is being handled professionally by the archbishop of the church of Uganda together with the House of Bishops.
