Makerere Launches 2026–2030 Strategic Plan: New Roadmap To Boost Research And Innovation.University Targets Global Academic Excellence.

Makerere University has unveiled an ambitious five-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening its position as a leading institution in higher education, research, and innovation. The plan outlines key priorities that will guide the university's growth from 2026 to 2030. The minister of finance, planning, and economic development, Henry Musasizi, commended the university for being a model one and urged stakeholders to continue uplifting the standard of education in Uganda.

 

Makerere University has officially launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, setting out an ambitious roadmap to strengthen academic excellence, research, innovation, and national development.

During the launch at the university’s main campus, the vice chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, said the strategic plan builds on the university’s rich legacy while positioning Makerere to address today’s challenges through cutting-edge research, quality education, and innovation.

 

 

The event was officiated by the Minister of Finance, planning, and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, who described Makerere as Uganda’s flagship university and said the new plan will strengthen

Its contribution to the country’s development agenda.

 

 

According to university management, the five-year strategy focuses on improving teaching and learning, advancing research and innovation, strengthening infrastructure, promoting inclusivity, and deepening partnerships with government and industry.

 

The Strategic Plan was developed through a consultative process led by Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Prof. Henry Arinaitwe, with contributions from staff, students and others.
