Minister Lugolobi Granted A 10 Million Cash Bail

The Anti-Corruption Court has granted the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development who is also the MP Ntenjeru North, Amos Lugoloobi a bail of 10 million Uganda shillings cash and each of his sureties 100mshs not cash after he spent five days in detention in connection with mismanagement of government property (iron sheets) meant for the youth warriors in Karamoja.

The government had planned to resettle the youth as part of the disarmament program to restore peace in the Karamoja sub-region.

After two days on remand at Luzira prisons, State Minister for Finance in charge of planning, Amos Lugoloobi appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court presided over by the acting principal senior Grade One Magistrate, Ebert Asiimwe.

He was charged with two counts of dealing with suspect property contrary to Sections 21A of the Anti-Corruption Act (as amended) on 17th April 2023.

The magistrate announced a bail of 10mshs cash and 100mshs cash for each of Minister Lugoloobi’s sureties and advised him not to leave the country without permission from the court.

The acting principal senior Grade One Magistrate, Ebert Asiimwe adjourned the matter to 2nd June 2023.

The magistrate warned the minister and his supporters who turned up in large numbers any plans to contempt court with crowds as the law remains steadfast.

Lugoloobi is one of the ministers who returned the iron sheets to the stores of the office of the Prime Minister in Namanve, Mukono after President Museveni’s directive to return the iron sheets or pay the equivalent in cash.

In February, the minister admitted to having used some of the iron sheets to roof a shed for his goats on his farm in Kayunga District.

The Hon. Lugoloobi explained that it was part of a goat multiplication project for his constituency. He, however, removed them after there was a public outcry.

Minister for Karamoja Affairs Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu, who is at the centre of the scandal, was released on 14th April 2023 after paying cash bail of Shs10m after spending a week in Luzira prisons.
