Ministry Of Health Launches Self-Care App To Boost Mental Wellness
In a continued effort to promote mental wellness and support healthy living, the Ministry of Health has officially launched the Self-care App—a digital tool designed to help Ugandans manage stress, anxiety, and build positive daily habits through personalized guidance.
The app forms part of the Ministry’s wider strategy to expand access to mental health resources and empower individuals to take charge of their emotional and physical well-being.
The Self-care App offers users daily personalized plans, habit-building tools, and real-time support, providing a discreet and accessible platform to manage stress and monitor mental health on the go.
Speaking at the launch, U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, H.E William W. Popp, reaffirmed America’s partnership with Uganda in improving healthcare access. He noted that of the estimated 1.5 million Ugandans living with HIV, 94% are now receiving lifesaving treatment—thanks to continued support through PEPFAR.
From the Ministry, Ainebyona Emmanuel, Senior Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the app gives people a private and simple way to track progress, access coping strategies, and develop self-care routines, particularly in today’s fast-paced world.
Other experts including Professor Fredrick Makumbi from Makerere University School of Public Health and Dr. Annet Musinguzi, Commissioner of Human Resource Management at the Ministry, praised the app as a critical step in improving mental health responsiveness in Uganda.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, Kenneth Akiiri raised concern over the growing number of undiagnosed diabetic and hypertensive cases in the country, noting that many people are unaware of their health status. He highlighted the app’s potential in promoting early detection and prevention.
Health remains a cornerstone in the lives of Ugandans, directly influencing productivity, education, and overall national development. As the country faces both communicable and non-communicable disease challenges.
