MPs dissatisfied with kick off process of voters’ register exercise

PRIMA

Legislators have expressed concern over the absence of equipment and the deployment of the Electoral Commission team on ground intended to carry out the general update of the National Voters’ register across the country.

These have called on responsible authorities to take charge and ensure speedy response to queries as the time given for the exercise is limited.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has today, January 20, commenced the general update of the National Voters' Register across Uganda, a 21-day exercise running until February 10, in preparation for the 2025-2026 General Elections.

However, speaking during interviews at parliament today, the MPs expressed disappointment with the absence of the enrollment team and equipment on ground at some of their constituencies.

They also urged responsible authorities to reach ground and respond effectively as time is limited.

Despite the concerns, they implored citizens to comply with the commission and enable speedy conduct of the exercise.

The activity will be conducted daily, including weekends, at designated parish centers.
