MPS Question Delayed Swearing In Of Kawempe North By-Election Winner Nalukoola
Legislators have questioned the delayed swearing-in of the recently elected Kawempe North by-election winner, Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola, citing the swift gazetting of some NRM MPs, with some being sworn in within 24 hours of their victory in previous by-elections.
This discussion took place during today's plenary session.
Last week, National Unit Platform (NUP)’s Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola was pronounced winner in the Kawempe North by-election polled at 17,764 votes.
Today, legislators have questioned the delayed swearing in of the late hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya’s successor, Nalukoola, sighted that previously, the house witnessed the swift gazette of MPs.
Representing the leader of government business, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the minister of state for industry, David Bahati, noted that he would not be adding anything to President Yoweri Museveni’s statement in regards to the occurrences in Kawempe. However, his statement received criticism.
Giving her response to the queries, the speaker of parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Among, mentioned that she is waiting for a gazette from the Electoral Commission, asking the attorney general to follow up.
Meanwhile, the LOP has also demanded explanations from the government on the brutalities that erupted during the by-election that have since left some journalists, civilians, and legislators nursing wounds, calling for action rather than mere condemnation.
