Muhabura Diocese Signs Ugx 1.15 Billion Cathedral Roofing Contract:New Cathedral Project Enters Critical Construction Phase.Bishop Mbitse Appeals For Support Towards Completion Of Ugx 5 Billi

The Diocese of Muhabura has signed a contract worth more than UGX 1.15 billion for the roofing of its new cathedral, marking a major milestone in the construction of the diocesan landmark. Church leaders have appealed to Christians, development partners, and well-wishers to continue supporting the project, which is expected to cost over UGX 5 billion upon completion.

The Diocese of Muhabura has officially handed over the site for the roofing of its new cathedral to Fabrications System Uganda Limited after signing a one-year contract valued at more than UGX 1.15 billion.

The signing ceremony was held at the diocesan headquarters and attended by church leaders, project partners, engineers, and representatives of the contractor.

Speaking during the contract handover meeting, the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Steven Ruzaza, said the contract covers only the roofing works of the cathedral at a cost of UGX 1,154,852,478.

He noted that the project marks another significant step towards the completion of the long-awaited diocesan cathedral.

While officially handing over the site, the Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, said the contractor was competitively procured and is expected to complete the roofing works within one year, beginning immediately.

The bishop appealed to Christians, friends of the diocese, and development partners to continue contributing towards the completion of the cathedral project.

He emphasized that collective support will be crucial in ensuring that the vision becomes a reality.

Bishop Mbitse further revealed that while the roofing phase alone requires more than UGX 1.15 billion, the entire cathedral project is expected to cost in excess of UGX 5 billion before completion.

Using the same platform, Bishop Mbitse announced that the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, is expected to visit Muhabura Diocese on June 26th and 27th as part of his farewell tour ahead of retirement.

He called upon Christians across the diocese to turn up in large numbers to welcome the archbishop and participate in the planned activities.

Representing Fabrications System Uganda Limited, Unit Head Bipin Loharuka pledged the company’s commitment to delivering quality work within the agreed timeframe.

Engineer Benon Ntenzibyayo of J&B Technology Services, one of the project partners, said construction of the cathedral began in 2019 and has steadily progressed to the roofing stage.

He expressed confidence that the latest phase will accelerate the realization of the diocesan vision.

The signing of the roofing contract marks a major milestone for Muhabura Diocese as it moves closer to completing a cathedral expected to serve generations of Christians and stand as a symbol of faith, unity, and development in the region.
