Museveni Set for Historic 7th Swearing-In as Uganda Strengthens Global Ties: Uganda Embassy in Copenhagen Hails Re-Election, Pledges Deeper Nordic Partnerships Over 210 Ugandan Students Benef
Uganda is set for a major constitutional milestone on May 12, 2026, when President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni takes the oath of office for a historic seventh elective term at Kololo Independence Grounds, as preparations intensify for an inauguration expected to attract about 35 Heads of State and Government from across the world.
As Uganda prepares for the swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds, congratulatory messages continue to pour in from diplomatic missions abroad, with the Uganda Embassy in Copenhagen describing President Museveni’s re-election as a reflection of continued public confidence in his leadership and the transformation agenda of the National Resistance Movement.
In a message delivered by Ambassador Margaret M. Otteskov, the embassy congratulated President Museveni upon securing another term in office, describing the renewed mandate as a sign of trust Ugandans continue to place in his leadership.
The mission reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Uganda’s foreign policy objectives across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and the Baltic states.
The Embassy also highlighted Uganda’s broader economic transformation agenda under President Museveni, pointing to the country’s Tenfold Growth Strategy launched in 2023, which seeks to expand Uganda’s economy from 50 billion to 500 billion US dollars by 2040 through industrialization, exports, innovation, and inclusive growth.
Aligned to Uganda’s National Development Plan Four, the Embassy says it has intensified economic diplomacy efforts aimed at attracting investment, trade, and strategic partnerships from Nordic and Baltic countries.
The Mission further revealed that more than 210 Ugandan students have so far benefited from agricultural internship placements on Danish farms, where they are acquiring modern farming skills expected to strengthen Uganda’s agricultural value chains.
Beyond agriculture, the Embassy says it has secured tourism and aviation partnerships aimed at promoting Uganda as the “Pearl of Africa,” while bilateral air service agreements with Scandinavian countries and Latvia are expected to boost passenger and cargo connectivity for Uganda Airlines.
The mission also emphasized ongoing collaborations in innovation, education, science, and digital governance between Uganda and European institutions.
Among the notable partnerships cited are engagements between Kampala Capital City Authority and Swedish company Truxor aimed at advancing sustainable waste management solutions in Kampala.
Vocational training partnerships across the Nordic region are also opening up technical education opportunities for young Ugandans.
Meanwhile, the annual Euro-Cranes Football Tournament continues to serve as a platform for diaspora mobilization, youth empowerment, and talent development, with at least ten Ugandan footballers already securing professional contracts with Danish clubs through the initiative.
The embassy further commended Uganda Immigration and National Identification and Registration Authority for improving diaspora services, including dual citizenship enrollment, passport renewals, and National Identity Card registration.
As Uganda prepares for the May 12 inauguration, government officials say the occasion will not only mark another constitutional transition but also provide an opportunity to strengthen Uganda’s international partnerships, economic diplomacy, and regional influence on the global stage.
