President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni has officially been sworn in for another term as president of Uganda, extending his leadership into a fourth decade in power.

The colorful ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds attracted more than a dozen African Heads of State, regional leaders, diplomats, and thousands of supporters as Museveni began his seventh elective term following victory in the January 2026 general elections.

Before the administration of the oath, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, formally presented President-elect Yoweri Museveni to the nation.

Justice Byabakama stated that the 2026 general elections were conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions governing presidential elections.

Moments later, the national flag was lowered, symbolizing the end of the previous presidential term and paving way for the constitutional transition into a new mandate.

Justice Byabakama announced that Museveni secured 71.6 percent of the valid votes cast, surpassing the constitutional requirement for election as President.

The ceremony opened with interfaith prayers led by religious leaders from across the country, including Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa, who represented the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu.

Bishop Mwesigwa referenced findings from the 2024 National Census and prayed for a leadership team guided by integrity, accountability, and commitment to national transformation.

The inauguration attracted a strong regional and continental presence, reflecting Uganda’s diplomatic and strategic ties within East Africa and the African continent.

Chief Justice Flavian Nzeije later administered the Oath of Allegiance and the Presidential Oath, officially ushering President Museveni into a fresh five-year mandate running from 2026 to 2031.

In his inaugural address, President Museveni declared that the new term would focus heavily on fighting corruption, improving service delivery, and accelerating wealth creation.

Describing the new phase as a “Kisanja of No More Sleep,” the President warned corrupt public officials and called upon Ugandans to actively participate in economic transformation programmes.

Museveni also emphasized the implementation of the Four-Acre Model, expansion of the Parish Development Model, industrial growth, and commercial agriculture as key pillars for fighting poverty and transforming household incomes.

Burundi President and current African Union Chairperson Évariste Ndayishimiye commended Museveni for his contribution to regional peace, stability, and Pan-African cooperation.

Among the Heads of State in attendance were Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan, South Sudan’s Salva Kiir Mayardit, DR Congo’s Félix Tshisekedi, Mozambique’s Daniel Chapo, Togo’s Faure Gnassingbé, Burundi’s Évariste Ndayishimiye, and Ethiopia’s Taye Atske Selassie.

Other dignitaries included Kenya’s Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Rwanda’s Prime Minister Édouard Ngirente, Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

As President Museveni begins another term in office, attention now turns to whether the renewed promises on corruption, economic transformation, and poverty eradication will translate into tangible change for ordinary Ugandans over the next five years
