Nakawa Division Gearing Up to Celebrate Older Persons: Aging Population to Be Trained on Healthy Eating Diets.New Leadership to Be Introduced to Sustain Change
Residents of Nakawa Division, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Uganda Home for Older Persons, are preparing to celebrate the valuable contributions of senior citizens to their communities.
The celebration, scheduled for 12th August 2026, will also feature health education sessions, where older persons will receive training on healthy eating habits to promote better living. Organisers say the event will also usher in new leadership to ensure continuity of community development initiatives.
The details emerged today during a stakeholders' engagement held ahead of the celebrations.
Older persons in Nakawa Division are preparing for the second celebration dedicated to older persons under the theme God’s pharmacy in your kitchen, which will be unveiled for the ageing population
In an exclusive interview, members of the organising committee expressed their readiness ahead of the event.
They revealed that the celebration aims to improve the well-being of older persons by promoting better healthcare and educating them on proper nutrition and healthy diets, which they believe can help them live longer and healthier lives.
However, committee representatives also highlighted some of the challenges older persons continue to face, including limited access to health insurance services and inadequate funding, with many communities still lacking essential support for the elderly.
The event will also usher in the Uganda Home for Older Persons ambassadors for Nakawa, who will take up their offices
