Nakawa Market Mettalic Cases Business
It is the back to school season and parents are preparing to return their children back to school, while a few others have already reported.
Now, one of the most important items many parents shop is a suitcase for the children heading to boarding schools. The options are the metallic box suitcase and the other types made of leather, cloth or plastic.
Our reporter Ritah visited Nakawa Market, one of the hubs for making metallic box suitcases and filed this report.
Kasule Owengeye has been engaged in the business of making metallic box suitcases for over 15 years now. He says business has is slow because some parents don’t appreciate the safety the metallic boxes offer but rather prefer the leather, cloth or plastic suitcases for their good appearance, forgetting that their children have to keep their properties safe.
He added that the designers and makers of the metallic box suitcases are adapting to the times and have modernized the cases to make rollers which are affordable and appropriate for school-going children.
Some dealers they say they have to charge their customers higher prices since the raw materials they use are expensive.
We found a parent Steven Wajalubi at Nakawa Market buying a metallic suitcase for his child. He says he travelled all the way from Gulu to Kampala because the box suitcases are expensive in Gulu and the quality, and design not that good.
The price of the metal box cases range from 70,000 shs for small size, 170,000 medium size and 350,000 shs for the bigger ones.
