Schools begin selection of S.1 students at UMA grounds Lugogo

The National Senior One Placement Exercise is currently underway at the UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo, bringing together head teachers, school administrators, and education officials from across Uganda. The annual exercise marks a critical transition point for learners progressing from primary to secondary education.

Held at the UMA Multipurpose Hall, the placement process is being conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Sports, alongside other key stakeholders in the education sector. Schools are selecting learners according to officially approved cut-off points, ensuring that admissions align with national guidelines and available capacity.

The exercise plays a central role in maintaining transparency and fairness in secondary school admissions. By centralizing the placement process, education authorities aim to minimize irregularities and provide equal opportunity for qualified candidates to secure slots in both government and private institutions.

Officials have confirmed that students successfully placed during the exercise are expected to report to their respective schools on March 3. This reporting date sets the stage for the commencement of the new academic term and gives schools time to prepare for the incoming Senior One class.

Beyond simple allocation, the placement exercise reflects broader efforts by the Ministry to streamline transitions within Uganda’s education system. With thousands of learners seeking admission each year, coordination between schools and policymakers remains essential to balancing performance standards, infrastructure capacity, and regional access to education.

As the selection process continues, parents and learners across the country are closely monitoring outcomes, hopeful for placements that will shape the next phase of their academic journeys.
