Museveni thanks northern Uganda during Janani Luwum day commemoration

During the 49th Commemoration of St. Janani Luwum Day, held in Mucwini Sub-county, Kitgum District, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took the opportunity to thank the people of Northern Uganda for their strong support in previous elections. Speaking at the event, the President linked the region’s electoral participation to the broader themes of peace, stability, and development across the nation.

President Museveni reflected on Uganda’s historical challenges, including the turbulent era of leaders like Idi Amin, noting that today’s commemoration represents a stand against oppression and injustice. He praised Northern Uganda for its resilience and for embracing peace after decades of insecurity during the LRA insurgency, highlighting the region’s role in shaping a stable and united Uganda.

In his address, the President also reaffirmed the fulfillment of pledges made to religious leaders, including the allocation of 60 million shillings, demonstrating his commitment to community development and collaboration with local institutions.

The event, themed “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Stability and Peace,” brought together church leaders, including Archbishop Kazimba Mugalu, government officials, and citizens. Archbishop Mugalu highlighted the enduring moral and spiritual lessons of Archbishop Janani Luwum, emphasizing faith, integrity, and service to the nation as pillars of national cohesion.

Hon. Lillian Aber also addressed the gathering, recognizing the archbishop’s role as a moral compass and acknowledging the region’s journey from conflict to peace. She praised the President’s leadership and commitment to the people of Northern Uganda, reinforcing the importance of unity, ethical governance, and resilience in nation-building.

As Uganda commemorates Archbishop Janani Luwum’s martyrdom, the gathering in Kitgum serves as a reminder that moral leadership, courage, and a commitment to peace remain essential to national development and unity.
