Nameere Warns Corrupt Officials on Government Programs: Government Renews Fight Against Corruption in Local Governments. Minister Vows Crackdown on PDM Saboteurs
The minister of state for local government, Justine Nameere, issued a stern warning to public servants accused of frustrating government programs, saying those undermining service delivery and the Parish Development Model will be held accountable. The minister made the remarks during a memorial service for the late Gladys Aliyinza in Mukono District.
The fight against corruption and poor service delivery has once again taken center stage. Minister of State for Local Government, Justine Nameere, says the government will not tolerate public servants who frustrate programs intended to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.
Speaking during a memorial service for the late Gladys Aliyinza in Ntawo, Mukono Municipality, the minister said she is committed to ensuring that officials who misuse public office are brought to book.
Nameere says she will work closely with the Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, to strengthen accountability in local governments and improve service delivery across the country.
She noted that programs such as the Parish Development Model can only achieve their intended impact if public officials execute their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism.
Away from government business, the minister paid tribute to the late Gladys Aliyinza, describing her as a dedicated leader whose contribution to public service continues to inspire many.
She also commended Alhaji Faruk Kirunda for preserving his late wife's legacy through the annual memorial.
The memorial attracted political, religious, and cultural leaders from across the region, many of whom used the occasion to call for unity, responsible leadership, and socio-economic transformation, particularly in the Busoga sub-region.
National Resistance Army historical Kellen Kayonga urged Busoga leaders to embrace dialogue and establish a council of elders to help resolve conflicts, while special presidential assistant on PDM funds monitoring, Hajjat Mariam Namayanja, warned that continued political divisions could undermine the region's development.
Religious leaders also challenged Ugandans to pursue righteous living, faith, and integrity, saying the values people live by will define the legacy they leave behind.
The Parish Development Model remains the government's flagship program for transforming households from subsistence to the money economy. However, concerns over corruption, delayed implementation, and abuse of funds by some public officials have prompted repeated calls for greater accountability. Government has maintained that effective service delivery depends on transparency and strict supervision at the local government level.
Nameere reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that public resources reach the intended beneficiaries, warning that officials who frustrate service delivery or undermine government programs will face appropriate disciplinary and legal action.
