New Era for Governance - Rukiga Opens Shs284 Million Modern Council Chambers”: Marks Major Administrative Milestone for Rukiga District. Modern Council Chambers to Boost Service Delivery
Rukiga District has officially commissioned its newly constructed modern council hall in Mparo, ending months of uncertainty and disagreements over its delayed operationalization.
The Shs284 million facility is expected to enhance council operations, improve accountability, and strengthen service delivery across the district.
Rukiga District has officially commissioned its newly constructed council hall, bringing to a close months of disagreement between councillors and the district technical team over delays in putting the facility into use.
Constructed by MKET Construction Company Limited at a cost of more than 284 million shillings, the modern council hall project commenced on October 16, 2025, and was scheduled for completion by April 16, 2026.
According to the District Engineer, Deogratious Mutabazi, the building was completed within the agreed timeframe.
However, its handover and commissioning were delayed due to the lack of furniture needed to make the facility operational.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Rukiga District Speaker Oscar Akampurira applauded former District Chairperson Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere and the previous council for their efforts in lobbying and ensuring that the district secured funding for the project.
Akampurira, however, noted that it was unfortunate that the leaders who championed the initiative did not get the opportunity to conduct council business in the new chambers before the end of their term.
The newly elected Rukiga District Chairperson, Simon Mutebi Rwamagyenda, pledged to maximize the use of the facility to improve service delivery, strengthen oversight, and enhance local governance in the district.
The commissioning of the council hall marks a significant milestone in Rukiga District's infrastructure development and is expected to provide a more conducive environment for council deliberations and decision-making.
