A new political party in Uganda, named "People Power Front," was officially inaugurated today in Kampala, with a focus on the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Kampala, Supatan Mukaagi Achilles, the secretary-general of the party, explained that the primary motive of the party is not to target any individual or group, but rather to advance transformative politics and offer an alternative form of governance.
A new political party in Uganda dubbed “People Power Front” has been inaugurated today in Kampala ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Supatan Mukaagi, Achilles, Secretary General of the Party, notes that the party registration has been fully registered by the Uganda Electoral Commission, having reserved the particulars of the People Power Front in December 2023 together with their symbol, color combinations, and the slogan.
He says that they are not a faction of the National Unity Platform but a regrouping of people of the original people's power.
Supatan says that they are back to the People Power Movement concept, not fighting anyone but advancing for transformative politics and alternative governance.
He says that they are establishing a long-standing institution, not only stopping in the 2026 general elections. He adds that they will be unveiling the structures and official elected party leadership and are ready to bring candidates at all levels of leadership.
Haji Musa Musango, the acting chairman of the party, explained that the People Power Front uses symbols similar to those of the National Unity Platform, such as the barrette, because they were originally associated with the people who founded the movement.
It should be noted that NUP started as the People Power Movement from a slogan, ‘People Power, Our Power.’ However, instead of proceeding to register it as a political party, its founders opted for the National Unity Platform.
