
New Token Number Upgrade Will Not Affect Users – UMEME Boss

Ugandans using new token identifier number transition known as YAKA have been called upon not to be scared by the new upgrade that has been introduced as the minister for Energy and Mineral Development Hon Ruth Nankabirwa informed the public last week as it will not alter the value or functioning of the meter
The call has been made by Managing Director UMEME Selestino Babungi while clarifying on the new upgrade and how it will operate.
Last week, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Hon Ruth Nankabirwa while addressing the press at Uganda Media Centre revealed that new token identifier number transition upgrades are to occur on 24th novermber2024, where all the yaka meters in the country will stop dispensing electricity.
Selestino Babungi Managing Director UMEME has also clarified on the new token identifier number transition upgrades saying that Ugandans using yaka should not worry because it won’t affect them as it is just an upgrade to latest version.
Babungi further disclosed the implementation plan for the yaka upgrade, emphasizing that it will be conducted on a regional basis. By the conclusion of November, all Ugandans utilizing YAKA will have undergone the necessary enhancements.
He says that the upgrade won’t change the value neither the behaving of the meter hence calling upon yaka users to cooperate with Umeme team for upgrade to avoid inconveniences.
Babungi cautioned customers that upgrade is free of charge therefore nobody should extort money to upgrade the meter.
