North Kigezi Diocese Prepares For New Bishop’s Consecration

Christians in North Kigezi Diocese are in fervent preparations ahead of the consecration of the new bishop on 12th March 2023.

A few weeks ago, the House of Bishops elected the Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe as the sixth Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, replacing the Late Bishop Benon Magezi who died of COVID-19 about two years ago.

The COU Family TV correspondent visited the Diocesan headquarters in Rukungiri and filed this report on the state of the preparations for the consecration.

The Dean of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rev. Canon Eric Mugyenzi, said that for about two years ago now since the unfortunate demise of Bishop Benoni Magezi, there has been a huge leadership gap in the diocese which has affected many activities.

However, following the election of a new Bishop, the Christians have been happily waiting for the consecration of the Rev. Canon Onesimus Asiimwe. He noted that almost everything is now in place ahead of the consecration on 12th March 2023 in Rukungiri and the Christians cannot wait to work with the new bishop in the implementation of programs for the socio-economic development of their area.

The Rev. Canon Mugyenzi added that there are a number of unfinished projects, the key among them being the construction of the Cathedral. The Christians are hopeful that the new Bishop will complete those projects and initiate even more since he has a track record of delivery and hard work.

COU Family TV spoke to some of the Christians who were excited and happy that in the next few weeks, they will have a new shepherd. They pledged to support and work with the new Bishop for the spiritual and economic development of the community that the diocese serves.

In Rukungiri town, we found an atmosphere of expectation and happiness, with the people and leaders ready to receive the new Bishop.
