The ruling party, NRM, has reset the race for Uganda’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly, calling for new expressions of interest and fresh nominations. The move comes as the NRM Electoral Commission replaces two outgoing members, signaling a complete restart of the selection process for the 2022–2027 term. This took place today at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala

The NRM Electoral Commission has once again issued a call for expressions of interest and the collection of nomination forms for individuals seeking to become NRM flag bearers for Members of Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly by-election for the 2022–2027 term.

Replacing Hon. Dennis Namara and Hon. James Kakooza, Dr. Tanga Odoi announced that all aspirants must re‑express their interest, despite the earlier declaration in March, in which 38 had already shown interest. He emphasized that the entire process will now be conducted afresh.

Members seeking to express interest are required to submit a formal letter of expression along with an updated CV between 29th June and 1st July 2026. Dr. Tanga Odoi further outlined the key requirements necessary for one to qualify.

He further went on to clarify that the party is in full preparation for the program of the LC I, LC II, and Women Council elections, stating that they will nominate and conduct primaries to fill the gaps, summing it up with the endorsements of the candidates by the party.
