NRM In Plans To Remobilize Departed Luweero Supporters
National Resistance Movement leaders have tasked the government to come up with a special arrangement geared at benefiting residents of Luwero as a reward for their contribution to the 1980-1986 war that saw NRA/ NRM come into power.
These Leaders have also demanded the government improve social and economic development aspects. This was revealed in a meeting held in Luwero district at Nayiga Hotel aiming at laying strategies to rejuvenate the lost glory of NRM in Greater Luwero.
Led by Deputy Secretary General of NRM Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko NRM leaders have embarked on a remobilization process aimed at bringing back lost party supporters since many had fallen out of the party resulting from internal misunderstandings.
After losing key elective positions in the district such as the district Chairperson, 4 Members of Parliament and a majority of district councillors' seats, the party is now struggling to reverse this in the coming elections.
Namayanja says that the President of Uganda His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni together with Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabbanja are expected to visit Greater Luwero in the near future to grace this noble cause.
Namayanja further added that in a bid to improve the quality of agricultural produce from the region, the government is organizing an agricultural expo scheduled to take place from the 24th to 28 of next month and through this, residents will have a chance to interact with experts in farming to gain more knowledge about better farming methods
Also in attendance was Hon. Godfrey Ssuubi Kiwanda the Vice Chairperson of NRM Buganda Region and his in address, Kiwanda expressed his disappointment in the results of the previous elections and urged the party leadership to reconsider the involvement of the youth in the government programs as a way of re-energizing the party.
Leaders are also cognizant of the issues within the district such as the Poor state of roads, rampant cases of land wrangles that have affected the Party's popularity mistrust, and selfishness have been highlighted as key triggers to division among party members which has greatly halted the development of the region.
It is almost three years since the 2021 elections and the NRM leaders from the three districts, Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola are still struggling to gain momentum.
