NRM Releases Roadmap for Kikube Lc5 By-Election Primaries: Aspirant Nominations Set for May 7–8 As Campaigns Begin May 10. Commission Vows Fairness, Dismisses Favouritism Claims
The National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission has released a detailed roadmap for party primaries to fill the vacant LC5 chairperson seat in Kikube District following the death of chairperson-elect Peter Banura, setting key dates for nominations, campaigns, and polling as the ruling party moves to identify its flagbearer for the forthcoming by-election.
The National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission has unveiled a detailed roadmap for party primaries to fill the vacant LC5 chairperson seat in Kikube District, following the death of chairperson-elect Peter Banura.
Speaking at the party headquarters, Commission member Alisemera Jane Babiiha confirmed that the process is already underway, with expression of interest and nomination forms closing on May 6. Formal nominations will take place on May 7 and 8.
Joint campaigns are scheduled to run from May 10 to May 20, after the campaign program is drawn on May 9. During this period, voter register updates and verification will also be conducted at the village level.
Polling for the NRM primaries is set for May 22, with the winner to be declared as the party flag bearer ahead of official nomination later in May.
Babiiha emphasised strict eligibility requirements, including NRM membership, residency in Kikube District, and a minimum of Advanced Level education. She also ruled out the participation of public servants, security personnel, and cultural leaders.
Addressing concerns of bias, Babiiha assured the public of a fair process, stressing that no candidate, including relatives of the late Banura, will receive special treatment.
The roadmap marks the beginning of the by-election process as the NRM moves to select its candidate for the Kikube LC5 seat.
