Ntoroko residents return home as fighting stops

Residents in Ntoroko district who had yesterday have today returned to their homes after fighting between the UPDF and the ADF rebels stopped.

Yesterday morning, hundreds of people ran away from their homes after
intensive fighting broke out when the ADF rebels crossed to Uganda
across river Semliki.

Today, many of the area residents who had sought refuge at Karugutu primary school were seen packing their belongings back to their homes.

‘’Let us go back home, we have no food and money here, let’s go back if
we are dying from home we do.’’

‘’We left our homes not locked, we came here without anything, let’s
just go back home.’’

‘’They should give us transport and we go back home because we are
told the situation has returned back to normal.’’

However, the locals expressed their displeasure at the authorities for
neglecting them and offering them no help in form of food and beddings
at the time they needed them most.

‘’We have not had anything to eat since yesterday, our children spent
the night crying, they are now eating mangoes.’’

‘’We came here and they wrote our names that they were coming to help
us, Rwemulikya Ibanda gave money to the town clerk, to date no one has
helped us.’’

The Mountain Division Commander and Commander of Operation Shujja Maj Gen Dick Olumu says that UPDF has so far killed 17 ADF rebels, captured 13, and
recovered over 17 guns.
