NUP On Members Arrests
In their first media briefing in the New Year, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party leaders vowed that in 2023 they will use all legal means to end the abduction and unfair detention of their members this year.
The press conference held at the NUP party headquarters in Kamwokya, Kampala was addressed by senior party leaders led by the Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and party Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi.
The National Unity Platform has raised concern about what they have called the unfair arrest and/or abduction of members from 2020 before the January 2021 general election and up until the present time.
Some of them have since been released while a number are still in jail for a number of alleged offences including holding unlawful assemblies, terrorism, among others.
During the media conference at the party headquarters, senior NUP oficials said that in 2023 they will continue demanding that their members get justice.
The NUP officials say even their members answering cases in the courts have been abducted again and yet others like
MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya have been denied bail by the courts.
NUP leaders also pledged that in 2023, they will advocate for a better Uganda, starting from the grassroots and using the leadership positions party members hold across the country.
