Nurses Advised To Observe Professional Ethics And Value Patients

A total of 497 students have graduated with diplomas and certificates in various courses from the Soroti School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing.

At the end of the graduation ceremony, the students walked away with diplomas in Comprehensive Nursing extension, Diploma in Nursing extension, diploma in Midwifery extension and Diploma in Midwifery E-learning.

The State Minister for Primary Education, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu was the chief guest at the graduation ceremony.

 The Minister of State for Primary Education, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu presided over the 7th graduation ceremony of the Soroti School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing. A total of 497 graduands were conferred diplomas and certificates in various nursing disciplines. 

The Hon. Moriku noted that the education ministry is emphasizing human capital development, adding that the Government is committed to improving the human resource for Healthcare.  

Dr Moriku advised the graduands to stick to professional ethics and treat patients with love to end the commonly held perception midwives are rude to mothers and their patients.

Dr Kaducu urged medical workers to focus on their work while on duty rather than spending much time on social media, leaving patients unattended.

She noted that Government had begun the process of phasing out comprehensive nursing institutions and the last bunch of Comprehensive Nursing students will complete their studies in 2025. The phase-out, she explained was aimed at streamlining the Health system. She advised the graduands to go back to school and upgrade their qualifications. 

Francis Itomet, the Principal of Soroti School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing noted that this graduation covered different sets of students over four years - 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. He urged the graduates to use the newly acquired knowledge, skills and competencies to better their lives, families and communities.

Out of the 497 graduands, there were 297 female and 200 m male nurses. The Principal appealed for financial support to buy more equipment such as computers.

Dr. Benedict Watmon, the Chairperson of the school’s Governing Council advised the graduands to uphold moral values and be committed to offering quality services with a professional touch.

He appealed to the education ministry to give funds to the school management to renovate the school structures, remove the outdated and unsafe asbestos from staff quarters, and acquire a school bus.
