Opposition: It Is Illegal For Pre-Medical Interns To Pay For Their Placements

Opposition legislators have condemned the Ministry of Health over their proposal to have pre-medical interns pay for their internship placements in health facilities and later get a refund from the Government.

On 7th June 2023, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwiine issued a statement saying the ministry was ready to deploy pre-medical interns at their own cost and asked those ready to apply online.

The Shadow Minister for Health, Dr. Timothy Batuwa, who addressed the media on behalf of the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Matthias Mpuuga said that the proposal not only goes against several laws governing the country and the health sector but also creates classes among medical students.

Dr. Batuwa was joined by several opposition MPs.
