Over 260 Senior Prison Officers Promoted: Promoted Officers Encouraged to Ensure Continuity of Good Prison Service. Urged to Maintain Discipline as Core Value.

A historic day at Luzira Prisons Complex as 269 senior officers of the Uganda Prisons Service were decorated with new ranks in a colorful pipping ceremony. The promotions, spanning different categories, mark a significant step in strengthening discipline, professionalism, and reform within the service. Top leadership, including Commissioner General Dr. Johnson Byabashaija and Deputy Commissioner General Samuel Akena, applauded the officers while urging them to uphold standards and maintain discipline.


269 senior prison officers from the Uganda Prisons Service in different categories have been promoted to various ranks in a piping ceremony at Luzira Prisons Complex today.


Addressing the senior officers, officers, and guests at the ceremony, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, began by congratulating the officers on their appointment.


He further urged the promoted senior officers to uphold professional standards in order to ensure the continued delivery of prison services, while challenging them to demonstrate the merit and responsibility that earned them their new positions.


Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, Samuel Akena, urged the officers to maintain discipline as a core value, maintaining that it should be key in all aspects of the service.

Representing the promoted officers, Senior Commissioner of Prisons Stephen Lugonda conveyed gratitude to the president for the elevation. He further extended appreciation to the prison's authority, highlighting the significance of staff development programs, institutional reforms, and other initiatives that continue to strengthen the service.
