Parents Challenged To Teach Their Children Values

Parents Challenged To Teach Their Children Values

Parents have been reminded to use every chance at their disposal in playing their role of raising children responsibly.

The reminder was pronounced by the Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala The Right Reverend Hannington Mutebi while speaking to journalists this morning in relation to the appalling situation of homosexuality in schools at the diocesan secretariat in Kampala.

In 2009, Ugandan Members of Parliament tried to introduce new laws against homosexuality that would include life imprisonment and even the death penalty.

Homophobia was rife in the media with tabloid papers printing the names and addresses of gay men and lesbians.

Many activists suffered intimidation and assault. The law was eventually overturned by the Constitutional Court in 2014 but homosexuality is still illegal in Uganda.

Following recent confessions and testimonies that have rocked both mainstream and social media depicting the vice in some schools, the Province of the Church of Uganda has preached a message of resistance and denouncement against the practice.

In the midst of this, the diocese of Kampala has today thought it wise to make a clarion call to parents to jointly work with teachers in a bid to foster ethical values amongst learners.

The Bishop who spoke tough towards the homosexual practice called on the youths to interest themselves and take pride in work as opposed to showing greed for money which has landed many of them into such practices that are barbaric and uncouth for mankind.

Reverend Paulson Tummutegyeraize says as a Province, the Church of Uganda has embarked on skilling and training programs through provincial vocational schools as a self-reliant measure to tame the youth from being enticed into joining vices like homosexuality.

Bishop Mutebi now demands of the youths to desire more of creating self-sustaining projects and opt out of their comfort zone.

Bishop Hannington Mutebi addressed the press on behalf of the Bishop of the diocese of Kampala Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.
