PDM Beneficiaries Complain Of Deductions By Banks
Parish development model beneficiaries have complained of unclear deductions made by the banks while accessing the PDM funds.
These claim each person is charged by the bank Uganda shillings 50,000 which is contrary to the guidelines for accessing these funds prime minister Robinah Nabbanja uses the Easter season to supervise the implementation of government programs in the Kakumiro district. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja spent much of the Easter break interacting with communities in the Kakumiro district on access and implementation of several government programs like the parish development model, and emyooga among others.
The residents of Kakumiro told the prime minister that banks have started charging them Uqanda shillings 50, 000 per one million before giving them the money. This leaves the beneficiaries with less money compared to a million shillings meant for each household as per the directive of the president.
The parish development model is a government program that has been launched with each parish receiving Uganda shillings 30 million each financial year on their Sacco account. There are estimated 33 people per parish who are believed to have received the PDM funds.
Prime Minister Nabbanja who was disappointed that banks had reduced the said funds asked the beneficiaries to invest the money in income-generating activities.
The locals also took the opportunity to raise other concerns that they are faced with. These include land grabbing, poor roads, and water shortage among other things. Nabbanja assured them all manner of support to see that none is evicted from their land as well as handling other issues.
