PDM Beneficiaries In Mbale To Buy Laptop For Sacco Chairperson Before Getting Money
Parish development Model beneficiaries in Mbale City’s Industrial Division have been asked to solicit funds amongst themselves to buy a laptop for the SACCO chairperson before they get the funds.
The 75 members of the Napooli central Parish Development model are required to give 10000 shillings each as contribution towards the purchase of a laptop for the chairperson of the SACCO.
According to the members, Moses Mwaka, the chairperson of the SACCO told them that he is unable to execute his duties of disbursing funds to the members because he lacks a laptop.
Mwaka’s actions has caused uproar amongst the members of the SACCO who have since petitioned the local leaders seeking for intervention. The members also accuse the chairperson of asking for shillings 50000 for the members who urgently want the money disbursed onto their accounts.
On top of the money for purchasing the lap top, the members have also been asked to contribute n extra 10000 shillings to purchase chairs for the group after two of the chairs that had been borrowed were broken.
Kanyala Henry, the Napooli central Ward councilor said that as local leaders in the area, they have received several complaints of extortion against the PDM committee members in the ward. He condemned the actions of the chairperson of the SACCO noting that many of his community members have been deprived the right to get the money which they thought would help them to fight the biting poverty.
John Rexc Achila, the Mbale City Resident Commissioner said that his office has also received such complaints noting that it is not only in Napooli central with challenges but many other parishes within the city citing Nakalooke where he has since arrested some leaders until they refunded the money they had extorted from the members.
Moses Mwaka, the embattled PDM SACCO leader dismissed the claims of collecting money to buy him the lap top and the chairs. He said that they agreed as members of the community to purchase a laptop and chairs for the area which they would use even after the PDM program.
