PDM Will Generate 70 Million Jobs If Implemented – Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has rallied Ugandans to embrace the parish development model to sort out the escalating unemployment rate across the country. Museveni was speaking at the international labor celebrations held in the Namutumba district.

According to the president parish development model is expected to generate 70 million jobs which sort out the problem of unemployment. Uganda has today joined the rest of the world to commemorate International labors Day.

The event which has been held in Namutumba district was graced by the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, ministers of government, members of parliament, and the chief justice of Uganda among other guests.

The day comes at a time the country is grappling with unemployment, especially among the young population. This according to President Museveni will be sorted only if Ugandans embrace government projects like emyooga, the parish development model among others.

President Museveni has revealed that government targets about 70 million jobs through a parish development model which ends unemployment in Uganda.

There is an estimated 8 million youth across the country unemployed. Government targets roughly one million jobs annually to end this escalating problem.

Sectors like industrialization and services are many from where the government expects job creation

However, there are concerns that some investors have been chased away by middlemen who have made it a habit of asking for bribes before these investors are allowed to operate in the country.

President Museveni says he is now forced to put up a special unit to fight such culprits. The employment sector is majorly dominated by youth with 69% of the working sector below the age of 35.

These youth have tasked the government with clear employment procedures for equal access to job opportunities, especially in the government.

This year’s theme is Promoting Positive Work Culture and Ethics: A Prerequisite for Increased Investment, Employment Opportunities, and Household Incomes.
